The Sales/Use Tax Accountant is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate preparation and filing of assigned sales and use tax returns in a multi-state environment. This position is also responsible for ongoing compliance matters, support for audits, projects and reviews/reporting.
Prepare timely and accurate state and local sales and use tax returns with all related supporting
documentation for assigned entities.
• Review Accounts Payable invoices sent for use tax accrual determination. Also review fixed asset
purchases for use tax. Utilize the department sales and use tax matrix to determine taxability of
items not taxed by vendors and accrue as needed.
• Prepare monthly journal entries for items taxed incorrectly and include supporting documentation.
• Research sales and use tax regulations using RIA tax research system and vendor or state
websites to determine taxability of products and services not found on the department matrices.
• Reconcile the balance sheet tax accounts monthly to ensure the accuracy of sales and use tax
accounts.
• Investigate sales and use tax notices and prepare response letters for manager’s review.
• Assist Senior Director – Tax with gathering information needed for sales and use tax audits.
• Prepare local business license and gross receipts tax returns.
• Assist with miscellaneous projects and reports as requested.

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree
Major: Accounting, Business Finance or a related field of study
Education Details:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent education and experience
• In lieu of higher education, the ratio is 1:1 meaning one year of college equals one year of work
experience and vice-versa.
Certifications and/or Licenses:
• CPA or other relevant certifications is preferred
Customarily has at least the following experience: 2 years
• Customarily has at least two years of experience in sales/use tax matters, public accounting, or
tax compliance.
