Overview

The Sr Accountant, Payroll is responsible for the accounting for Concentra's payroll cycles including benefits, payroll taxes and accruals. The Sr Accountant, Payroll will also provide support to department leaders and work closely with leadership on monthly accounting, analysis and reporting, while continuously maintaining all controls, following generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and fostering an environment of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Run the costing process in the Oracle Payroll system, working with payroll and accounting personnel to timely correct any errors.
• Execute the process to transfer data from Oracle Payroll. Review the resulting payroll journal entry, correcting any errors and prepare for posting.
• Calculate and record accruals related to payroll, benefits, payroll taxes and PTO, ensuring all entries are in accordance with GAAP.
• Responsible for all of the accounting activities for assigned support departments in the company, including journal entries, financial analysis, reporting, forecasting and budget.
• Calculate and record monthly FTEs.
• Provide leadership with analysis on accrual balances during the month end close process.
• Prepare assigned balance sheet and cash reconciliations monthly, notifying leadership of any issues and / or items to resolve.
• Follow existing policies and procedures to ensure an effective system of internal controls is maintained and identify potential areas of risk or improvement.
• Work closely with the Concentra payroll, benefits and tax teams to understand their processes and impacts to accounting and Internal Controls.
• Demonstrates ability to work with sensitive information, such as compensation, and maintain confidentiality.
• Assist with the integration of acquisitions into our financial systems and processes.
• Participate in system upgrades / patches, including testing and updating documentation.
• Assist with audit support when needed.
• Participate in other projects, analysis or reporting as requested by leadership.

Qualifications

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree
Major: Accounting or Finance

 

Degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job-Related Experience

 

Customarily has at least the following experience: 5 years
• Strong knowledge of GAAP.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written), critical problem solving and analytical skills; detail
oriented.
• Demonstrated experience with payroll related accounting and analysis.
• Superior computer skills, experience with Oracle, UKG and Hyperion a plus.
